Alfred Wainwright has to be one of the most famous walkers. He was born into poverty in Blackburn. At the age of 23 he saved for a week’s holiday in the lakes, and the rest, as they say is history.

The pictorial guide that he wrote have been re printed many times over and catapulted him to a television career sharing his love of fell walking and the Lake District.
